Who will watch the watchmen?

One complaint that I have consistently heard since my early days on the old cusa-talk boards was that the 'local fish wrap' is terrible at covering UC sports. The perception is that if there is a negative story coming out of UC, it will be on the front page the next morning, but if there is a positive story it will contain some back handed editorial remarks about UC in the middle of it tainting an otherwise good story.

Another complaint is that there is very little original journalism being done. Most of the stories are rehashes of what we already know. Do the local writers read the message boards and just edit the posts down into enough words to fit their column?

What is the role of the 'paper of record'? I certainly do not think it should be the lead cheerleader for the UC Athletic Department, but I find it sad when our opponents' papers have more insightful content on our team, and often more articles than our own hometown paper.

This could be part of the overall declining role of newspapers recently, but I can't remember a time in my 11 years of living in Cincinnati when anybody was happy with the coverage. So can we really call that a decline?

Where are all the bloggers?

Seeing this article today prompted me to ask the good people of Bearcat Banter where all the Bearcat Bloggers are.

Yeah why aren't there any bloggers? So I started this up, will is stay here? I don't know, but if you are interested in joining this blog, I'd be more than happy to have anyone who has an opinion on the Bearcats to join up.
